Sweet Stampin - Ribbons

Good Morning :)  I hope everyone has some fabby plans for the weekend.  We will be staying warm and cosy today, as about another 4 inches of the white stuff fell again last night!

My card today is for our new challenge over at Sweet Stampin, where this week our theme is 'Ribbons'.  Our monthly sponsor is The Ribbon Girl,  and our weekly sponsor is Crafty Ribbons - aaaah, I geddit! lol :D

Now I think I mentioned in my previous post I have been having a crisis of confidence with my colouring, so this week I fought off a few demons, and tried not to get so wound up or precious about it.    I coloured this gorgeous LOTV image in with PM's and matted onto white American Crafts and DCWV cardstock.  The papers were a smashing christmas present from my blogging buddy Paula, so I have no idea what they are and the rose and seam binding are WOC.  The sentiment is LOTV and the tag die, heart die and filligree frame hooked around my image are Cheery Lynn.  The border punch is MS and the heart brads are from very old stash.

I have finally completed my DI refill collection, so intend to have a bash painting with those.  If anyone has any tips or suggestions on flesh colours, hair colours etc I would really appreciate it, as I am starting from scratch.  I have the DI pens, and didnt really get on with those, so I am hoping I fare a little better with the inks (fingers crossed!).

I am entering this card in the below competitions:

Lili's Little Fairies - Anything Goes
I ♥ Promarkers - Anything Goes
Passion For Promarkers - Fave colour combo - my mum used to call this 'blood and bandages'.... but I LOVE to see red, white and green! :)
My Mums Craft Shop - Anything Goes
Papertake Weekly - Use a bow

Thanks so much for visiting my blog today and have a smashing weekend!

I've not got any of the reinkers yet but I love stamping in the ink & then drawing the colour into the image, dampening the paper from within the image & working towards the ink until it touches & the ink spreads in. I know that Elaine (A Technophobe......) used the tutorials from Cat's Whiskers (I just googled & came up with http://jacqui47.blogspot.co.uk/2009/10/distress-ink-tutorial.html. I tend to use Cotmam Cold Press Grain Fin 190gsm with Distress Inks (just search my blog & there will be some info under Colouring MCC). That's just off the top of my head - I'm sure there are more proficient coloureds & I utterly relate to crises with colouring..........
Much love

Wow, love your red card, so much rich colour. I've just started painting with the DIs too. I didn't get the pens as I wanted to try painting with the re-inkers. It's really relaxing although it takes much longer than the marker pens. I like tattered rose for faces and tea die is also good for some shading. I'm certainly no expert though and I've found that I've needed to paint some colour onto paper to see what they look like and have created some colour grids to work from. I look forward to seeing what you create.

Hi Alison, awww this is just soooo sweet!

Love the image and can't see what's wrong with your colouring (on this or anything!) at all. It always looks spot on to me.

No help from me with the DI's at all - never tried them!! I started out myself with watercolours, then pencils now Promarkers - dabbling with Prismacolour pencils inbetween! - I wonder how much similarity between watercolours and DIs? I always found that good w/colour paper and lots of patience worked!!

Hope you have a good weekend,
Sarah

PS - Was just admiring your cards at the CHA as well - seems like I know someone famous!!!
